Crimea/Surgery, 2015
laser-cut google-map of Crimea, laser-cut map of Krasnodar region with the photo of my body with a scar from appendicitis surgery on top, print on foam paper, table, medical oilcloth, construction staples
This object is my response to the annexation of Crimea, in 2014. In 2012, my family went to the Ukrainian Crimea, the city of Yalta. Unfortunately, during the vacation, I had to undergo an emergency surgery — an appendectomy. The photo of my belly with the healed scar tissue after the surgery becomes a texture for the map of the Krasnodar region — the Russian region closest to the Crimean peninsula. The map of Crimea is brutally sewn with Krasnodar Krai on the table covered with white medical oilcloth, the staples unite Crimea and Russia in a personally tinted, physiological, and uncanny way.
